All of the Shungite Beehives are 10 frame deep Langstroth beehives. During the winter we configure each hive to consist of 2 deep supers (boxes), each containing 10 deep frames.
The bottom box has 4 frames in the middle consisting of brood/eggs, then the outer 6 frames, 3 on each side, contain honey. The 2nd deep box on top, contains 10 deep frames of Shungite honey the bees gathered during the spring/summer months.
In total each Shungite Beehive has:
4 - Deep frames of brood/eggs
16 - Deep frames of Shungite honey
approx. 10,000 bees + 1 Queen bee in each beehive
We're placing "mouse guards" over the entrances to prevent mice, and limit the entrance so the remaining bees can better protect their entrance against invaders during the winter.
No other winter prepping is necessary.
