The NFL Draft is always an exciting time, and sometimes prospective rookies end up exactly where they belong. Whether it's in Madden 21 or real-life, it's fun to look at what rookies will stand out and have breakthrough rookie campaigns that make them household names.
Today we are looking at five rookies you will want to overpay to get because they could become your franchise's cornerstones one day.
Joe Burrow, Bengals
One of the biggest turnarounds in college football history, Burrow was seen by many as a 5th to 7th round pick a year ago. Now he will be the favorite to be selected 1st overall. His record-setting Senior year led to a National Championship for LSU and one of most hyped QBs heading into the draft for a long while.
Burrow is ticking all the boxes for the physical tools required for the NFL, such as size, arm strength, and athleticism. He has also shown to be a leader at LSU, and it's clear he has a tenacious level of confidence. Madden doesn't like to rate young QBs too highly, but you can guarantee he will have Superstar dev to raise that quickly. It was time for them to find the franchise's new face, and Burrow seems to fit perfectly.
Jeff Okudah, Detroit Lions
Okudah is set to be a monster in Madden 21 for the Lions and is a big reason why they allowed Darius Slay to leave. A unanimous five-star recruit coming out of high school, Okudah didn't play right away at Ohio State due to their amazing depth at the position with the likes of Marshon Lattimore and Denzel Ward. They have since come into the NFL and dominated. Despite this, Okudah is still expected to be better than them. He is big and fast to match some of the physical talents at WR in the NFL and is considered a true shutdown corner in the mold of Jalen Ramsey.
Henry Ruggs, Las Vegas Raiders
Henry Ruggs is the top rookie on offense you will want to go after as hard as you can. He has a monstrous 98 speed and 97 acceleration to go along with 83 catching and 80 deep route running.
If all you knew was that you could get a 21-year-old rookie with superstar development and 98 speed, that should be enough for you to make an offer to whatever owner in your league has him. That level of speed is so valuable, especially in Madden 21. It is incredibly rare to draft a guy that fast means you don’t even have to progress him that much before he is truly elite.
Derrick Brown, Panthers
Derrick Brown is a powerful and talented interior defensive lineman who also happens to be a fantastic and intelligent human being off the field. Fans may have wanted to see a skill position player taken by Matt Rhule and the Panthers, but they made the best pick for what they're trying to build in Carolina.
A.J. Epenesa, Bills
Entering the 2020 NFL Draft, most people would have told you that the Buffalo Bills needed to address the wide receiver position to set up their QB Josh Allen with the best chance for success. A.J. Epenesa isn't a flashy pass-rusher, but he's an every-down defensive end, which brings additional toughness and works ethic to an already capable defensive line rotation.
Some players will climb, and others will fall. Despite there being a long way to go in Madden 21, it is still another opportunity to work out who will be the next massive stars to light up Madden.
